Dots and Boxes 2 Review & Gameplay Guide
I just spent the last hour or so playing Dots and Boxes 2, and I gotta say, it's been a real mixed bag for me. On the one hand, I love the simplicity of the game - it's basically just a more polished version of the classic pen and paper game we all used to play as kids. You know, the one where you try to create boxes by drawing lines between dots, and the person with the most boxes at the end wins. It's easy to learn, and the gameplay is really straightforward, which is great for when you just want to kick back and play something casual.
But on the other hand, I'm not really sure what's so "2" about Dots and Boxes 2. I mean, I've played the original, and this just seems like more of the same, just with some updated graphics and a few new game modes. Don't get me wrong, the new graphics are nice and all, but they're not exactly mind-blowing or anything. And the new game modes are just variations on the same basic theme - they're not really adding anything new or exciting to the game. I was kinda hoping for something a bit more innovative, you know?
One thing that did kinda impress me, though, was the multiplayer mode. I mean, it's not every day you see a game like this with online multiplayer, so that was a nice touch. And it's actually pretty fun playing against other people - it's a lot more challenging than playing against the AI, that's for sure. Although, I did notice that the matchmaking can be a bit slow sometimes, and there's no way to chat with your opponents, which is kinda lame. But overall, the multiplayer mode is definitely a highlight of the game.
I'm also not sure how much replay value Dots and Boxes 2 has, to be honest. I mean, once you've played through all the different game modes a few times, it starts to get a bit repetitive. And there's no real sense of progression or anything - you're not unlocking new levels or characters or anything like that. You're just kinda playing the same game over and over again, which can get a bit boring after a while. I guess if you're really into this type of game, you might find it engaging for a longer period of time, but for me, it's just not enough to keep me coming back for more.
Despite all my reservations, though, I do have to say that Dots and Boxes 2 is still a pretty fun game. It's just a great way to waste some time, you know? And it's not like it's trying to be some deep, complex game or anything - it's just a simple, casual experience. So if you're looking for something to play during your lunch break or whatever, Dots and Boxes 2 might be a good choice. Just don't expect it to blow your mind or anything.
Overall, I'd say Dots and Boxes 2 is a solid, if unremarkable, game. It's not really doing anything new or exciting, but it's still a fun way to pass the time. If you're a fan of the original, you might want to check it out, but if you're looking for something a bit more substantial, you might want to keep looking. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars, I reckon - it's just a pretty average game, but it's still worth playing if you're into this sort of thing.
