Edge of Survival Review & Gameplay Guide
I just spent the last 20 hours playing Edge of Survival and I'm still trying to process my thoughts about it. I went into this game with pretty high expectations - the trailers looked amazing and the concept sounded really cool. You play as a character who's stranded on a deserted island after a shipwreck, and you have to survive by gathering resources, building shelter, and fending off the elements. It sounds simple, but trust me, it's a lot harder than it sounds.
At first, I was really into it - the graphics are stunning, and the sound design is top-notch. The way the trees sway in the wind and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore is so immersive. But as I started to play, I realized that the gameplay is pretty repetitive. You spend most of your time gathering sticks and stones, and crafting the same old tools over and over again. Don't get me wrong, it's satisfying to craft your first axe or build your first shelter, but after a while, it starts to feel like a chore.
One thing that really disappointed me was the lack of a storyline. I mean, I know it's a survival game, but I was expecting some kind of narrative to drive the gameplay forward. Instead, you're just kind of... existing on this island, trying to survive. There are no other characters, no quests, no nothing. It's just you and the environment, and after a while, it starts to feel a bit hollow. I found myself wondering, what's the point of all this? Am I just trying to survive for the sake of surviving, or is there something more to it?
Despite all my criticisms, I have to admit that Edge of Survival can be really fun at times. When a storm rolls in and you have to scramble to find shelter, or when you encounter a pack of wild animals and have to defend yourself, it's exhilarating. The game has a way of making you feel like you're really fighting for your life, and that's a great feeling. But those moments are few and far between, and most of the time, you're just kind of... surviving. I also have to praise the game's difficulty curve - it's challenging, but not frustratingly so. You really feel like you're earning your progress, and that's a great feeling.
I think the biggest problem with Edge of Survival is that it's just not a very well-rounded game. It's all about survival, but it doesn't really have anything else to offer. There's no multiplayer, no co-op, no nothing. You're just playing solo, and that can get pretty boring after a while. I also encountered some pretty annoying bugs and glitches, like when my character would get stuck in a tree or when the game would freeze up on me. It's not a deal-breaker, but it's definitely frustrating.
Overall, I'd say that Edge of Survival is an okay game. It's not great, but it's not bad either. If you're a fan of survival games, you might enjoy it, but if you're looking for something with a bit more depth and variety, you might want to look elsewhere. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it to everyone, but if you're curious, I'd say give it a try. Just don't expect too much, and you might be pleasantly surprised.
