Short Ride Review & Gameplay Guide
I just finished playing Short Ride and I'm still trying to process my thoughts about it. I went into this game with pretty low expectations, to be honest. I mean, it's a game about a guy who's trying to get to a party on a skateboard, and it's called Short Ride - I thought it was going to be some kind of quirky indie thing that would be over in an hour. But it actually ended up being way more than that.
The gameplay is really where Short Ride shines. The controls are super tight and responsive, which is exactly what you want in a game that's all about precision platforming. You'll be grinding on rails, jumping over obstacles, and performing tricks to get to the end of each level, and it all feels really smooth and natural. I was a bit worried that the game would get repetitive, but the levels are all really well-designed and there's always something new to look forward to. Plus, the game has a really chill atmosphere - the music is great, and the graphics are all colorful and fun.
One thing that really impressed me about Short Ride is how much variety there is in the levels. I was expecting it to just be the same old thing over and over - skate down a hill, jump over some rocks, grind on a rail - but the game actually throws a lot of different challenges at you. There are levels where you have to navigate through tight tunnels, levels where you have to avoid obstacles like cars and pedestrians, and even levels where you have to solve puzzles to progress. It keeps the game feeling fresh and exciting, even after you've been playing for a while.
If I have any complaints about Short Ride, it's that the game can be a bit frustrating at times. Some of the levels are really tough, and you'll have to retry them over and over again to get it just right. And sometimes, it feels like the game is being a bit too harsh - I've had times where I've messed up a jump by a fraction of a second, and it's sent me all the way back to the start of the level. But I guess that's just part of the challenge, right? And it's not like the game is impossible or anything - with a bit of practice, you can get through even the toughest levels.
I'm also really impressed by the game's sense of humor. The protagonist is just a regular guy who's trying to get to a party, and the game doesn't take itself too seriously. There are all these funny little touches throughout the game - like the way the protagonist will sometimes fall off his board and get up, dazed and confused - that just add to the game's charm. And the writing is actually really clever and funny, too - I found myself laughing out loud at some of the protagonist's one-liners.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend Short Ride to anyone who's a fan of platformers or skateboarding games. It's a really fun, challenging game that's all about precision and skill, and it's got a great atmosphere and sense of humor to boot. Just be prepared to get a bit frustrated at times - but hey, that's all part of the fun, right? I'm glad I gave Short Ride a chance, and I think you will be too.
