Special Alien Review & Gameplay Guide
I just finished playing Special Alien and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole experience. I mean, I've played some weird games in my time, but this one takes the cake. The game starts off pretty normal, you're this alien guy who's trying to find his way back to his home planet, but things quickly take a turn for the bizarre. The graphics are pretty old school, think PS2 era, and the sound design is straight out of a bad 80s sci-fi movie. But despite all its quirks, there's something strangely charming about Special Alien.
The gameplay is pretty straightforward, you run around, collect power-ups, and shoot bad guys. It's not exactly revolutionary, but it's fun in a mindless kind of way. The levels are all pretty short, which is good because the game can get pretty frustrating at times. The controls are a bit wonky, and the camera can be really annoying, but I never felt like it was so bad that I wanted to throw my controller across the room. The difficulty curve is also pretty well balanced, it starts off easy and gradually gets harder as you progress through the game.
One of the things that really stood out to me about Special Alien was its sense of humor. The game doesn't take itself too seriously, and it's clear that the developers were just trying to have fun with it. There are all these ridiculous cutscenes and dialogue exchanges that had me laughing out loud. It's not always funny, and sometimes the jokes fall flat, but it's clear that the devs were trying to make a game that was enjoyable and lighthearted. And for the most part, they succeeded.
But despite all its charms, Special Alien is not without its flaws. The game is pretty short, I beat it in about 5 hours, and there's not a whole lot of replay value. The multiplayer mode is also pretty lackluster, it's just a bunch of generic deathmatch modes that get old pretty quickly. And the story, while entertaining, is pretty predictable and doesn't really have any real depth to it. But overall, I'd say that Special Alien is a fun, if not particularly memorable, gaming experience.
I think the biggest problem with Special Alien is that it's just not very polished. The game feels like it was made on a pretty low budget, and it shows. There are all these little glitches and bugs that can be pretty frustrating, and the game's overall presentation is just not very impressive. But at the same time, I kind of appreciate the game's rough-around-the-edges quality. It's like it's trying to be a throwback to the old days of gaming, when games were a bit more raw and unrefined.
Overall, I'd say that Special Alien is worth checking out if you're a fan of old school games or just looking for something a bit off the beaten path. It's not going to win any awards or anything, but it's a fun, lighthearted gaming experience that's sure to put a smile on your face. Just don't expect too much in terms of depth or complexity, and you'll be fine. And who knows, you might even find yourself enjoying it, despite all its flaws. I know I did.
